Private Utility Locating in North Dakota
GPRS’ private utility locating services are meant to give your excavation team a detailed picture of what utility lines lie beneath the surface of your job site. To ensure the overall timely success of the job, utility detection is critical to any construction project where subsurface excavation is planned. If ignored, budget overruns multiply, your schedule turns chaotic and there’s risk of injuries taking place on your job site. The standard is one-call (811) utility locating, a state-sponsored public service that is required for every project. However, the scope of this service is limited to areas that only serve the public’s interest.
To achieve the complete success you're looking for, you’ll want to connect with an expert private service provider like GPRS.

Why Hire a North Dakota Private Utility Locator?
What lies beneath the surface? Whenever you’re working on a project involving subsurface excavation, hiring an underground utility locating company before breaking ground is crucial to the success of your project and safety of your crew. Injuries, line strikes, and additional expenses are just a few of the consequences of running into unknown utilities.
811 is a national “call before you dig” phone number sponsored in all 50 states. It’s a great place to start; however, 811 is not a line locating service. It works by sending the location of your project to local utility companies and giving them a certain amount of time to let you know if there are lines in that location. If there are any privately owned lines, cables, or tanks on your project site, a call to 811 will not give you that information.

Private Utility Locating Services: Your Best Damage Prevention and Safety Tool
Safety should always be the first priority on a job site of any kind. Part of staying safe is being prepared. Hitting unknown utilities like water, electric, storm, or sewer lines can result in all kinds of injuries to your crew, so it’s important to have all the information you need before ever breaking ground. On top of the injury risk, there’s a significant possibility of major damage to the infrastructure, which then results in unforeseen expenses.
Most line strikes happen due to a lack of proper ground disturbance policies and dig permits, but GPRS is on a mission to change that. We are constantly searching for new ways to improve our accuracy when locating private utilities, and the Subsurface Investigation Methodology (SIM) has helped us continue to lead the industry. GPRS performed over 72,000 concrete scanning and utility locating projects in 2019.
